Austin ISD Advocacy Advisory Committee
Inviting students to apply to serve on the Austin ISD Advocacy Advisory Committee
Austin ISD established a district-wide Advocacy Advisory Committee a couple of years ago. Membership includes two students from each AISD high school. Most of the initial students have graduated, so there are openings from new members. We would love for you to share this opportunity with some of our students.
Here's more information:
The purpose of the Advocacy Advisory Committee (AAC) is to assist the district in advancing its legislative priorities at the local, state and federal level. The Committee’s advocacy shall be in alignment with the district’s priorities, as adopted by the Board of Trustees. Its responsibilities shall include, but are not limited to, the following:
Becoming informed how local, state, and federal governmental action impacts Austin ISD;
Recommend legislative priorities to the district and the Board;
Connect with parents, teachers, administrators, taxpayers, and students, empowering them to engage with elected officials; and
Collaborate with the Austin community to advance the legislative priorities adopted by the Board of Trustees.
The composition of the AAC currently includes two students from each high school. AISD currently has openings for students at every AISD high school.
To apply, students can complete this short application.
The AAC meets the second Monday of every month from 5 – 6:15 pm by Zoom. The Legislature will be in session from January 14 until June 2, so please get your application in soon!
